Questions & answers

Good to know

Starting therapy comes with questions. Here are the ones I hear most. If yours isn’t here, just ask me — I’m happy to help.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

I offer secure telehealth (video) sessions across New York State, so you can meet from wherever you feel most comfortable. If you’d like to ask about in-person availability in the Bronx, reach out and we’ll talk.

Do you offer sessions in Spanish?

Sí. I provide full sessions in both English and Spanish. Therapy is personal work, and it often goes deeper in the language that feels most like home. You’re welcome to switch between the two, too.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know you — what’s bringing you in, a bit of your history, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to. Together we’ll begin shaping goals that feel meaningful to you.

How long are sessions, and how often?

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes; couples sessions can run a little longer. Most people begin weekly to build momentum, then adjust over time. We’ll find a rhythm that fits your life and your goals.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity, stress, and relationships. I welcome clients from all backgrounds — including LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities of color — and I bring cultural humility to every session.

What approaches do you use?

My work is collaborative and tailored to you. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, and human-centered approaches, and I weave in psychoeducation so you understand what’s happening and why. You can read more on the About and Services pages.

How much does it cost, and do you take insurance?

You’ll find session fees, in-network plans, and out-of-network (superbill) options on the Rates & Insurance page. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available — if cost is a barrier, please ask.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What you share in session is confidential and protected, with a few legal exceptions every therapist must follow (such as risk of serious harm to yourself or others). I’ll explain these clearly at the start so there are no surprises. Please note the website forms are for getting in touch — not for sharing sensitive clinical details.

What’s an LMHC?

An LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor — a master’s-level clinician licensed by the state to diagnose and treat mental health conditions through psychotherapy. It reflects supervised clinical training, examination, and ongoing professional standards.

How do I get started?

The easiest first step is the short readiness survey — it goes straight to me and helps me understand how to help. Prefer to just say hello? Use the contact page. Either way, I’ll follow up personally.

What if I’m in crisis right now?

If you’re in emotional crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please reach out for immediate support: call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), available free, 24/7. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. This website isn’t monitored for emergencies.
